Pros

Working for Orbitz brings a sense of pride - it's a well-recognized brand, a big one, and that's a good thing. The people are generally very good and there are a lot of people who are very good at what they do. Good technology, nice office space. Benefits were average. Good CTO (finally.)

Cons

Hard work isn't always recognized; sometimes, it's simply connections that get you advanced, unfortunately. The big restructuring in 2009 prompted a lot of good talent to leave - long-time names are now gone, and that hurt morale. Career pathing was never defined, although it was promised many many times. HR is staffed with well-meaning people who do not handle preboarding (interviews, etc.) very well. It's been made very clear for director level folks that if the CEO doesn't like you, you'll be gone quickly.

Pros

The flexible work hours, casual work environment but professional and "let's make this company the best it can be" culture at Orbitz is amazing. I find it both personally and professionally rewarding to work for Orbitz. Personally because I have never had a better work-life balance in my life (coming from a consulting firm, to remain unnamed, where work weeks were typically 80+ hours on top of weekly travel, that may not be saying much - but now that I have a family it simply was a must for me to find a more flexible and less strenuous job). As a new mom I find Orbitz to be the perfect fit personally (with the flexibility to leave work early for a pediatrician appointment, or work from home some days, etc.) but also professionally rewarding as I am constantly challenged to stay on top of my game and keep up to date with the latest & greatest user experience techniques in our industry. Not to mention I love travel - most especially personal travel which I am finally doing more of than work travel now - so the job content is WAY more interesting than what I've done in the past (online information management systems mostly). I am ecstatic with my choice of employment and encourage others to consider Orbitz. It is truly a great place to work!

Cons

A somewhat unclear path on how to move to the top.

Pros

The industry (travel) is pretty cool - things are always changing, and there are a million problems to solve. Orbitz seems to take the smartest people and put them into really challenging assignments - once you are recognized as a "really smart person" the problem space becomes pretty awesome. The fact the office in the train station is a nice perk if you take Metra in - no walk in winter.

Cons

The flipside of "things always changing" is that tactics are fairly flexible. It seems like the company has done a good job of keeping the goals steady for the past few years, however if you need 6 months of tactics as well as general goals then Orbitz might not work for you.
