Pros

- I was able to advance my skills as a graphic designer, especially in InDesign, Illustrator, as well as photography. - The ability to work on some great digital campaigns. - Ability to work with the global design team. - The company is an industry leader in the prosthetics market.

Cons

- No career advancement for a graphic designer, which means you wont be an Art Director or Creative Director at Ottobock. Even if you work so much and have a lot to prove and potential, there’s still no room for growth. - Work/life balance is skewed. I didn’t have the ability to work from home like the rest of the team since I was on a desktop (rest of team has laptops) so I had to put in long hours in order to finish projects on time. - When I requested a salary increase and showed proof of what the average designer in Austin makes, it was a 6 month process for my salary to increase. Even then, they promised to match it and later gave me less than the amount promised. - Retaliation from director when resignation notice was given. - Hired a freelance graphic designer and paid them 3x my hourly rate. Freelancer is used on a daily basis even during the "slow months". - The Communications team sits in a community table and the whole office is an open floor concept. While it’s great for collaborations, it’s horrible during the times you’re trying to finish a project in order to meet deadlines since you’re constantly having people come up to you. Like previously mentioned, I didn’t have the opportunity to work from home so long hours were normal. - Directors and senior management have favorites and it’s very obvious.

Pros

As one of the world's leading companies in the field, it was a great company to work for. Diverse product line, small, tight-knit feel. Always lots to learn, lots of high-tech products, corporate visits to Duderstadt and Vienna.

Cons

It's difficult to comprehend why Otto Bock would leave Minnesota and so many experienced employees behind after 55 years. Hundreds of lives effected for a few hundred thousand dollars in tax breaks? I think this says a lot about Ottobock... every employee and every customer is disposable.
