Pros

Decent retirement benefits, good training opportunities. Some autonomy in how you did things. Lean manufacturing is definitely needed at OC and OC has made strides to get there. Hard to think of good things about this company. OC has some really great people there (and some really lousy ones, as any company). Need to find a way to leverage the talent they actually have vs. just talking about "extraordinary talent". Need to find that balance between cost and truly offering the training and opportunities to get the extraordinary talent that OC claims they believe in as a value. o c

Cons

Volatility of market, horrible health benefits. Employees not treated with respect. Communication is poor, and people too concerned with their bonus and job protection to look at the big picture of the whole organization. Corporate headquarters is absolutely bloated with way too many people and made up job titles. Lean concepts needs to be applied to HQ - could probably eliminate several jobs. Entitlement mentality of employees. In order to be heard, must be part of the "clique" of people that are constantly promoted upward when the rank and file perceive them to be incompetent. Hard to find conference rooms.

Pros

I enjoy the work I do. The monetary pay for the work I do meets my expectations. My job is challenging and I am sufficiently empowered that I can implement my work as needed without endless consultation with those to whom I report.

Cons

It sometimes seems there are too few who have the knowledge and experince to get the job done and dedicated enough to continue learning. The few who can work too many hours. Retirement via mutual funds and limited corporate co-funding is inadequate for primary (hourly) employees. Too many positions are held by those who primary criterion for employment is a degree rather than general competence.

Pros

OC is a global company with the opportunity to make a sizeable bonus based on corporate performance. Lots of opportunity throughout the organization to impact decision making at all levels of the organization. 100% on first 5% 401K match.

Cons

Career advancement can happen, but many open positions are not posted on the internal job board and people are merely placed in roles (although I have benefited from this practice). Not enough advanced planning occurs and fire drills are frequent in many areas. Horrible health insurance.
