Pros

The compensation is relatively high. Most people are pretty friendly. The environment, at least on my floor, doesn’t feel toxic.

Cons

It was my mistake not to take the negative reviews seriously before accepting a job with PACCAR. Though I have been with the company for a short time, I am already planning to move on. During my interview, I was told that the role would require full-time, in office presence. That would be fine, except most of my team has the ability to work from home at least two days, even new members. I personally do not mind going into an office and dressing up, but wearing a suit and tie EVERY DAY is old fashioned and really does get draining. The few ‘casual days’ throughout the year only mean that men don’t have to wear ties. The systems and technology are horrendous. Everything is so fragmented and sporadic; for a company that insists on conformity, organization and structure out of their employees, they certainly do not invest the same expectations out of their internal systems and technology. The lack of cohesiveness spills over into the multiple business units; despite being a company of 30,000, there’s several major companies under the PACCAR umbrella, all of whom seem to have their own way of doing things and lack proper communication or communication. Though the IT help desk is friendly, they seem way understaffed and issues take forever to resolve, if at all. The office itself looks like a scene out of the movie ‘Office Space’; it’s dismal and way behind the times. Most floors do not have microwaves, which requires going to the basement cafeteria to heat lunch. Unlike every other company I have worked for, health insurance benefits do not start immediately. It took about two months for my benefits to kick in, which nowadays is ridiculous. The insurance is generally ok, but the premiums are higher than any other company I’ve worked for. Also, my department experienced a significant amount of turnover, which so most days are just a matter of trying to keep going. For a high-salary, manager-titled role, I am performing work of junior analysts or even interns. I should be grateful for a paycheck but it’s a bit insulting and certainly doesn’t help with growth. I know I’ve whined about a lot of seemingly ‘first world’ issues, but again, I should’ve taken the other reviews more seriously before accepting an offer here. It’s not the absolute worst, by any means, but there’s definitely better.

Pros

1. They have been around for 100+ years, thus making them a stable company. 2. Paccar has standard benefits, health insurance premiums are a bit high, but parking is free if you park at the mall.

Cons

1. Total mens club, if you are younger or a women you literally get glared at in the elevator daily. 2. Technology is outdated.. they are still using office 2010.... 3. There is no training...you have to learn how to do things yourself and if you do not get it done, someone will "bark" at you" 4. Do not count on getting a raise of more then 2% even if you go above or beyond, there is a lot of politics that go into performance reviews. 5. They do not offer perks like most companies such as free orca cards, free coffee/water in the breakroom Don't be fooled by how they present the company to you, they only show the positive , but once employed you learn the reality about the company.

Pros

Stable company, that rewards shareholders very well- dividends, return. If your willing to stay on for a long time you usually can wait around until they have to promote you. Pension, which isnt for much money but its better than a poke in the eye. Hr reviews this site regularly, so i will let them talk up the company.

Cons

Pay, though they beat the drum of how competitive the pay is, i guess so when comparing it to mcdonalds or taco bell. Pension, its not bad now but they dont factor in inflation so when i get 400 bucks a month when i retire in 30+ years, what am i gonna buy? Some bubble gum? Have issues retaining young people, the bureaucracy is well established and removes responsibility from lower level employees. To further this, management has created new management positions to reduce the worker to management ratio. Meaning less gets done but more people are managers. Managers can be classified into 2 categories, bullies and push overs. As a result you will either be miserable and overworked or bored and collecting a pay check, neither promotes new ideas and new managers have a habit of fixing what isnt broken, in the name of change. Thereby reducing efficiency.
