Pros

Pension and people are two of the great things. There are some opportunities for advancement, however very limited.

Cons

Lack of resource planning for work. If you work on projects that are not aligned to your managers goals then there is a conflict at review time. There are a few managers that I saw through the years that had experience and enjoyed deploying employees, however most of those folks are gone and have been replaced with newer managers. Unfortunately, the managers (no fault of their own) have not been taught how to develop people and struggle to understand their employees. Vacation is non-negotiable (start at 2 weeks). The atmosphere can be very depressing as there is little excitement to work there.

Pros

Never get bored. There is much to learn and plenty of places to grow. People are promoted within the company with regularity. Education is a prized asset, and they promote it by subsidizing your tuition. Lean Six Sigma Green & Black Belt training is also heartily encouraged. On a personal note, the people I've interacted with have been extremely competent, very likeable, have high standards for performance, and are open to sharing what they know or have learned while working there. Other perks, on-site gym, gym membership discounts, cell phone discounts, MS Office deep discounts, ski package discounts. To other local employers, PACCAR has brand recognition that stands for quality.

Cons

The cultural environment is not for everyone. Suit and tie for the fellows. Being clean-shaven also appears to be a requirement. Tailored dress clothes for women. No sandals. At times, the dress code seems oppressive on those mornings when you wake and say to yourself, 'I really just wanna be in jeans today."

A very specific 'fit' is needed

Pros

Great company stability - you know it's going to be around forever. No fear of the company going out of business.

Cons

That stability comes at a cost. 'You' do not matter - only the company does. And what the Chairman thinks today.
