Pros

PCL is an industry leader in many areas related to general contracting as it relates to the health & well being of our workforce, and environment as well as providing it's employees with adequate training and resources required to prepare people to effectively manage their work. PCL has a very progressive benefits & health and wellness package, a strong human resources department, and excellent overall financial compensation related to salary, bonuses, and employee share ownership based upon employee commitment. Although PCL is a large corporation, it is divided in to groups of districts and divisions of the company providing for more of a feeling of working within a family as part of an extended community. PCL recognizes it's employees and their development as part of the core of it's overall success and business model. PCL has allowed me to have the opportunities to develop my career with substantial growth and has provided me with a very challenging and rewarding career working with some of the best professionals in the industry, as well as providing other opportunities to help in the mentoring and development of others for continued success of the company and succession planning. I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work for a great organization such as PCL for over 20 years now, which has allowed me to develop increasingly to my highest potential and career growth. I've always felt I've been a part of a team in a very collaborative and positive/productive environment.

Cons

It takes commitment to this company with respect to your career goals and professional development through hard work, accountability, motivation & dedication if you expect to reap the overall benefits and rewards associated with working within this organization, and in meeting your full potential. There is no rocket rides to the moon in this company, acceleration and career advancement are provided based upon your abilities, and limiting factors of opportunity, personal commitment & dedication.

PCL Is an Excellent Company

Pros

PCL is one of the best companies to work for in Canada. They consistently make top employer lists across North America for a reason. The areas that PCL excels in are: Organizational Culture - PCL's culture is something that needs to be experienced to really be described. The company is committed to safety, inclusion, employee satisfaction and continuous learning. From what I have experienced, most PCLers are driven, passionate, friendly and generous. PCL's well defined values and mission established by the company's founder Ernie Poole, allow recruiters to choose candidates that share similar values. Compensation/Benefits - The base pay is competitive for construction industry standards, but average compared to salaries for similar roles across industries. The benefits program is great, and the share program is an amazing perk. The share program really encourages employee commitment and ownership - both necessary to achieve high levels of organizational performance. The vacation is not great but average, 3 weeks, which is enough for me. Training - There is an excellent training program called the College of Construction. Ethics - Very ethical company (they have an excellent reputation for a reason). Communications - Executives and management are fairly transparent with employees when organizational changes occur, or when PCL is mentioned in media stories. Mentorship - PCL is own for their excellent mentorship program and developing employees in their careers. Altruism - PCL is always being recognized for their contributions to communities through volunteerism, and charity. They donate millions of dollars to the United Way each year. PCL's dedication to improving our society makes me proud to be a PCLer.

Cons

Vacation time is low Sometimes management forgets to recognize employees for their contributions Stressful at times
