Going downhill

Pros

Decent pay for employee's without a college degree.

Cons

Employees are overworked and under appreciated. Management refuses to listen despite wanting to appear in touch with all employees. Job is monotonous. Upper management has managed to kill moral over the last 2 years.

Growing Pains

Pros

I work with amazing and talented people, and (contrary to what many might believe) most all Managers, Directors, and Executives are wanting improvement and feedback from their staff. The company is off-balance, but it is improving and I see it every day.

Cons

We are growing fast, moving into a new world without the historical planning and foresight we needed five years ago to manage this. There are some at the top who have strong enemies because their orders and decrees were a firing squad for many on the ground floors. Lack of attention to the collateral damage has repercussions, and everyone suffers those situations.

Good company with promising future

Pros

CEO is highly energetic and enterprising. He has an ambitious but achievable vision and a team that is aligned when it comes to formulating and executing the strategy. CEO’s heart is also in the right place and has been a strong advocate for higher pay and improved benefits for employees (which have improved tremendously since he took over). He and his board have also done a solid job recruiting new talent while at the same time promoting from within in order retain organizational knowledge (and safeguarding the company’s heritage). The company itself has a unique mission (focused on the national defense community and those who support them) and the staff does work really hard to provide great value and great service to its members. If you like being on a fast-moving and winning team, this may be the company for you.

Cons

The company is definitely experiencing some changes, but I think they are are commensurate and necessary given the forces reshaping the industry – fierce competition (including Fintechs now), ever-increasing regulations, hightened (and expensive) cybersecurity risks, and the insatiable demand by consumers for 100% online banking and 0% defect customer service. The financial institutions that are the most adaptable to change (and the most adept at mobilizing their employees) are the ones that will be around tomorrow.
