Pros

Decent pay, though it definitely pays to be a Director and above Decent benefits, particularly if you're a non smoker with employee only coverage Professional development training in some areas and divisions, particularly if you're in the DC area The mission of the organization is to serve the military community, and they do that exceptionally well

Cons

Massive amount of workload with either a) not enough resources or b) the WRONG resources Pay increases are based on length of service, not performance, which actually discourages top performers

Pros

the job was close to my home

Cons

The worst training I have ever had at any job ever. Started my job without a clue to what I was doing. Thank God my last job trained me well so I could find a way to get by.

Pros

Great people at the lower levels, made many lasting friendships. Direct managers in operations were wonderful.

Cons

Several newer executives couldn't care less about how their decisions to change the structure of the company affected people's lives. All promotional opportunities were stripped from entry-level employees and several positions were simply eliminated with no notice. People were advised that they were more likely to promote if they quit, then were re-hired into the new position. Many underhanded decisions were made and much of the truth was held back from employees. All evaluations of employees were based on Net Promoter Score (NPS), which was a score of clients' likelihood to promote PenFed to their friends. If only the COO who instituted could be told that their job depended on whether their employees approved of them. I think the decision to place one's future employment at the company on one small aspect would change rather quickly. One of the goals was to become a "destination employer," but I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy work at PenFed.
