Thank you for taking the time to provide input! We appreciate the insight into how you're experiencing work-life balance. It's difficult to help co-create a more positive experience without a clearer sense of what's not going well; I hope you'll take the opportunity to speak with a leader you trust or someone on the People & Culture team about your concerns.

Pros

Good health benefits and retirement savings plan. Good work life balance in some departments, where people take their vacations and have their weekends free. Good for career changers or those early in their career in specific types of roles; substantive skills can be built here.

Cons

Salaries are below market rate in some departments. Projects are initiated and then abandoned, with no retrospective or open communication about how to improve next time. Planning ahead for major cross-functional projects is given lip service. Politics are sometimes given precedence over actually getting substantive work accomplished. Employees are periodically let go while many others choose to leave. The turnover rate is high.

Pros

Good benefits, some cool people, interesting and exciting mission/vision. Education programs, including reimbursements. Nonprofit, so you get to feel good about where you work. Great if you have good self confidence and a basically positive, cheerful outlook, and if you thrive in a very stratified work environment and/or are good at office politics.

Cons

Though it's a nonprofit, it's got a corporate "feel". High turnover due to poor managers and low company cohesiveness. Poor morale in some units, good in others. Some managers are mean/vindictive, others are weak, only a few are good managers. Very political workplace as you rise in the ranks. Don't work here if you are emotionally sensitive and struggle with self esteem - it can be a snake pit. Be very selective in how and to whom you tell the "truth".
