Pros

If you're a sales-oriented person and trying to make your way up to a better sales position, this is not a terrible place to start. You are given adequate on-the-job training. It is a very laid back environment. The employee handbook says business casual is required, but people wear jeans/shorts and tshirts every day. Managers in my office are very down-to-earth and will back you up when you need help, joining you on potential client meetings to help you get out of any holes you dig yourself into.

Cons

Low pay, extremely high employee turnover (if you don't hit your sales goals ON THE DOT or over, you will lose your job). Cold call expectations are slightly unrealistic. Since it is such a laid back culture, it is more often than not a very unprofessional environment. The sales floor often gets way too loud from music played over speakers and people yelling across the room, so you cannot hear people over the phone. There are two options: stay in the same sales position for your entire tenure there and follow the salary program they have laid out for that position, or become a manager and go to whatever office they tell you to.

Pros

Uncapped commission is a real thing here (plus you are protected by the 'draw' system). No call lists or scripts, you decide who you want to call, when you want to call them, how you want to pitch PLS....you essentially run your own business and PLS provides you with the resources needed to do so. The people that make it here are self-motivated, hard workers. It is a very laid back environment which is nice when you need to unwind, but the people who ultimately fail here are the ones who spend all day taking advantage of that. The people who succeed here are the ones who bust their butt day in and day out and when they do need to cool down for a bit, PLS has the environment where that's acceptable.

Cons

The high turnover here scares a lot of people away, but its very simple: if you are good at your job, they keep you, if not they don't. I don't really see an issue with this. PLS is paying you to perform at a certain level, and if you don't why should they continue to employ you (just like any other job).

Pros

Everyday is a different adventure. Each indvidual in my department truly makes an impact to the bottom line of the company. There are opportunities to advance if you work hard. I have moved my family twice for the job and both times the company was very supportive.

Cons

The workload is a challenge due to the industry that PLS services. The metals industry does not have a great track record for planning. Emergency situations arise on a daily basis and at all hours. There is not much time to take a break due to the next situation.
