Pros

Join this company only if you're offered a position in Boston. The teams I worked with in other locations, twin-cities, San Diego are very hard to work with since the long timers who dominate most of the higher level work areas are impossible to work with. For entry level engineers, this is very intimidating environment at least from what I've seen in Vuforia. Some pros are below 1. Cross functional teams - Product team is excellent here. Kudos to the hiring strategy to bring in the best product owners. 2. Generous PTO policy 3. Perfect work life balance.

Cons

1. Tech leads - there are long timers with the company who are deemed very hard to work with. The managers/directors here are helpless since they are non-technical (see 3 for more info) both have very equivalent power that they cannot handle them. I have noticed many junior/senior (excluding principal) have left Vuforia projects because of this. The company is doing its best to bring in the best talent, but most of them leave in few years due to this. 2. Very average pay scale for East Coast. 3. Stop promoting QA as Engineering Managers. Was shocked to hear this has happened in the past which is evidently the root cause of #1.

Pros

Good benefits Good work-life balance Beautiful office in Seaport

Cons

-Salaries don’t meet the average standards in Boston metro area - Leadership positions dominated by white men. Men are promoted over women and most mid and senior management roles are held by white men - Layoffs happen every year. In November the company laid off a lot of people to save $60 M. Great employees were let go. This tanked existing employees’ morale. It is PTC constant way to save money and shows poor planning. They hired a lot if people less then a year ago and many of them were let go a few months later -talking about diversity seems to be a lip service. Not much diversity at all

Pros

Great compensation, work/life balance (can't speak for others), solid benefits package. Onshape is a really cool product. At best, engagement with teachers who enjoy your product and services is fulfilling. Friendly teammates. Opportunities to take on your own projects and have autonomy over your work if you take initiative. Summer fridays.

Cons

Interviewed with direct manager and assumed would be working for her upon hiring; on day one learned that another manager was hired between us. Not very transparent from a job-search perspective. Onboarding was near-absent (big emphasis on "learn as you go" but you mostly learn that there's simply no process or accountability for many tasks). Constantly delayed on projects due to lack of institutional knowledge on common practices, resources, or tools. Misled regarding relative time spent on different job tasks, ultimately spent most of time chasing trial conversion deals from leads that unimpressive sales team "qualified". KPIs and metrics of success were wildly unrealistic and underlying assumptions not justified at any point. Requested commission/bonus when realized how much of work was sales, but goals were unattainable because I'd already closed most of my best leads, leaving me far fewer opportunities to win during goal period. Nepotism and mediocrity tolerated/overlooked regularly. Finally, after strong performance for an entire year, laid off during November purge with absolutely no notice nor option to seek other roles.
