Pros

Large system and unique system Good 401k Free Trax pass

Cons

I had a manager that micromanaged everything. At one point in a team meeting my manager told my team we were not allowed to go to the break room together to get water of coffee. It killed morale in our group. We are salaried adult employees treated like children. PAC allowed us to work Monday and Friday remotely in my department, however my manager did not allow it because it would take away from his ability to micromanage. The SLC office is in very poor condition and feels like a windowless cubicle farm with no privacy. There are mice that will get into any food you have stored in your cubicles and the solution by facilities was to put mouse traps in your cubicle. I was told in my interview there was training and field visits available. My manager denied all of that every year. It’s very difficult to keep up with the industry as an engineer if you are denied learning opportunities. Communication and coordination between groups doesn’t exist, everyone just does things inconsistently. Junior staff isn’t developed and that can weigh down teams. PAC has adopted the sink or swim mentality and openly jokes about it in meetings with VPs and Directors. Feels like a true Warren buffet brand. Every thing is done so cheaply and it reflects in system reliability and quality of staff. The pay is marginal and isn’t great for SLC, you can get 50-70% more salary working as a consultant.

HR is not working

Pros

Stable employment Stable pay Flexible time off

Cons

People of color with better qualifications are passed by in positions for the good old boys or good old girls. HR basically is useless. Rampant complaints on harassment bullying and nothing has been ever done. It's a good old boys club. If you're a person of color someone less qualified will be chosen over you for the position.

Pros

Pacificorp has mazingly helpful (if they have time) and good natured co-workers. If you bump into one who's not; they're the oddball. The company is stable. Its 114 years strong! Depending on what you do, the pay scale isn't that bad. The tech they use for conference rooms is great and they take building maintenance seriously. You can get an ergonomics review (by request) and the company will invest in keeping you safe and healthy at the office. That means specialized chairs, keyboards, mice, etc. While late-to-the-game, PacifiCorp has invested in D.E.I. A lot of Emplyee Resource Groups are engaged in supporting the wider community through memberships and investing time into showing up to events. I deeply enjoyed the connections I made there and still see former coworkers.

Cons

Everyone does 5-10 peoples jobs, but you won't be paid 5-10 people's salaries. So, in that way, salary ranges are poor. To compensate, some hiring managers will post a straight-outta-college job at a Sr. Level JUST to get a decent pay range. Pay raises have never been good and don't match inflation, so you'd be effectively taking a paycut every year. The lawsuits are only making the company strain harder over budgets, so don't expect much. There's been a mass exodus of employees due to overwork, lack of opportunity (it's a pretty flat company), poor pay/benefits, low morale. The older reviews about a 10% payout are true and that devastated the employee/employer relationship when it was already poor. And not just regular employees. Very talented female and male VPs left. Plus, the two CEOs left within a short time of each other. I'm not sure what it means in the big picture, but that made people nervous.
