Pros

Stable job. No layoff even in financially challenging times

Cons

Everything there is super old. All systems and technologies using are in the 80s. No one likes changes. My team is pretty good, but company wise, the majority of employees are male. I barely see any manager there that are female. If you are a woman, it’s so hard to move up. HR policies are rigid and inflexible. They make employees forgo 10% salary if you want to work from home. Why would you ever shift the burden on employees because of your incompetence to manage people remotely? Always talk as if they care about employee, but you’re just a number.

Pros

Work/life balance. Good coffee in break room.

Cons

This company continues to stumble when it comes to caring about their employees. Pay is not very competitive and they are more concerned with screwing over employees than retaining talent. The most recent reflection of this is their decision to return hundreds of employees to the corporate office starting September 21st. There are no limits on elevator capacity, masks only required in common areas, and no barriers between desks. No masks required at desks. At a time when every other company in the area is looking at a 2021 return to work (including Portland General Electric), PacifiCorp thinks it makes sense to bring everyone back while the county is still in Phase one. Maybe that’s so they can force people to take the 10% pay cut if they want to continue to work from home to keep their family safe; or if they have kids in school that can’t be left unsupervised.

Pros

Great co-workers. I have worked with some very talented, nice people. Location is great.

Cons

Some managers are great; others are horrible with no management background or skills and no interest in improving. I've had managers who have managed by using insults and fear to try to motivate you, creating an incredibly stressful work environment. I've been on several conference calls where the manager literally yelled at the team. These managers seem to somehow be protected though since multiple complaints do not seem to change anything. Horrible feeling to have a manager whom you do not trust and who treats you poorly and on top of this, the company does not seem to care.
