Pros

good starting salary, possibility of a good bonus once a year. Possibilities for advancement if you are a white male.

Cons

Long work hours, old boy network, diversity lip service but you will hear a lot of inappropriate comments on the trading floor. No life/work balance, 12 hour days are common, as are weekends. My boss never missed his PT, but the rest of us worked insane hours.

Pros

Obtained experience designing: schematic, wiring, substations, optical fiber, and site plans, Some good people willing to help.

Cons

Some people were there only for themselves, unwilling to even speak to others or give away their knowledge (which kept them employed since they were the only ones who knew what they were doing). Most of them had been there for years, as long as 10 years on a contract, no benefits or even Holidays. Management does not care for anyone, as long as they don't make noise, they stay. Some of the engineers had no clue about what they were doing but kept their job due to their "friends". My boss spoke 6 or 7 times to me in 2 1/2 years! mostly "Hi"

Pros

Compensation is somewhat competitive while bonus exists. Challenges do make the job interesting.

Cons

Too much work. Inefficient. Isolated decisions. Many computer systems non integrated making it difficult. Culture is more about putting the time in with expected overtime than working smartly with work life balance. People knowledge doesn't appear appreciated and so new employees work inefficiently on information that may not be accurate. No training budget. No employee parties or recognition.
