Pros

You can do whatever you want. It’s impossible to get fired. Good pay for the meaningless work. “Nice people.”

Cons

There just isnt a culture of proactiveness, and it’s because of the absence of management. My first manager honestly had no clue what the team did, so it’s difficult for positive work to be recognized. Forget about the directors, because they arent even around! VPs are nice and verbally responsive to critical feedback, but so far away from the work that they’re sadly useless. They also rely on non-present directors and managers... Thus individual contributors stop trying to do efficient or solid work, and are all about doing just enough work to avoid conflict. If you’re lucky. Nice people (let’s be honest- most people in life are nice), but so many people have been ground down over time that a good majority of workers are bad employees. No offense, but if the company has a history of making major major deadly mistakes and trying to hide them, then something is horribly wrong. The pension and union culture would work in a better culture, but it also means people dont leave. The negative culture and lack of real management causes these people to get lazier and lazier, and to normalize the bad work culture. New employees tend to be shocked at the ineptitude right about the six month mark. Dont work here if you have any pride in yourself. Im thankful to have learned what a horrible corporate culture looks like, so that I can avoid it before I have a family to take care of.

Pros

Really strong union that prevents even the best ideas from happening (pro and con).

Cons

Horrible for anyone who wants to be judged by their merits versus how long one has been there. PG&E literally has Sr. Directors with high school diplomas running billion dollar portfolios, who were promoted just because they were the last man standing, and I do emphasize "man". And the company wonders why they have so many issues from record keeping to fires that kill dozens at a time.
