Pros

- Good food. - You meet some really cool people and getting to know some of the everyday customers is fun - I like the fact that Panera donates leftover products at the end of the night - Opportunities to train for different positions - Flexible Scheduling

Cons

- In my case, unless you work at a corporate store your pay is barely over minimum wage, even with previous experience. - Again, at my franchise, there are no benefits even to full time employees. - Pointless rules. Example: We can't take our food home even though we're still paying 50% for it. and god forbid you eat a broken cookie that would have been thrown away. - No real opportunities to advance. Associate-> Associate Trainer(25 cent raise)->Manager - Raises pretty much don't exist. - In general I believe everything you hear when you get hired makes the company seem way better than it actually is, at least at my store.

Pros

management is efficient while running shifts, clean and healthy place to work, 50% discount on food items, laid-back atmosphere, enjoyable coworkers, fun talking with the regulars,

Cons

may not get enough hours, sometimes only working 4-hour shifts. may get sent home early if it's slow. too much is asked of each employee- i can't be having everything looking good right after a rush slows down. if you have a problem the managers aren't open to discuss it- on multiple occasions when i've told the GM that i needed to talk with him about something he left early that day without saying anything more to me about it. it takes too long to get direct deposit going (3 paycheck periods). raises take too long to go into affect (3 pay periods). need to "greet" the customers as they each come in, most don't even notice... basically all the things that most retail/food places do that they THINK is working really isn't. you're often criticized for not having things perfect which isn't realistic. as crazy as it sounds, a pizza place i used to work at was run more efficiently than Panera. kind of sad because you'd think it would be the opposite...

Pros

50 cent raise twice a year if you are borderline competent. It's a first job, don't end up like the 5 year associates that have nothing going on.

Cons

Management was on the whole incompetent. In the two years I worked at Panera 2 GMs were fired and one was demoted and transfered. 2 AMs were fired, one was transferred and then fired and one was promoted to GM and then fired. The only good managers I ever had were a lifer who had been there since the store opened and a transfer from another store. I never once saw a Shift Manager promoted to AM, they were all hired out of company. As far as I am concerned there was no possibility of promotion, especially with the amount of GM turnover.
