Pros

Paragon has the client contacts and flexible work arrangements that are most sought after in the local job market. Firm leadership makes professional development and growth a breeze. I love my current job but I will always miss working with Paragon. As a bonus, the firm's reputation has spread so that people really know the quality of attorneys, staff and work product when you mention it by name. What more could you ask for?

Cons

If you are not amenable to working on an assignment basis or don't like to commute to Silicon Valley or client sites, there may be fewer opportunities. But there's almost always ongoing or new work assignments, when you do a good job for the client and firm.

We have many attorneys spend a few years with us, take a permanent job, and then return again. Paragon prides itself on being a place that can be a fit for people at many different stages of their career/life. I'm glad you mention professional development/career advancement, as we work very hard at Paragon to make sure we are supporting our resources in their skill development in order to maximize their career options down the line. Many people assume project-based work is a "detour" career-wise, but with the level of clients we service, we've found that many attorneys have eventually gone on to permanent jobs that they were only able to get through their experience at Paragon. I've been working at Paragon for a few months and feel incredibly lucky to have found this opportunity. After having worked at law firms and as in-house counsel in the past, I wondered whether it was really possible to have a flexible schedule as an attorney. I'm happy to say that this is the first job I've had in over ten years where I feel there is a sustainable work/life balance. I think Paragon has done a great job of partnering with clients who understand and value this concept, which may be why this model works. I happen to work with a smaller client and really enjoy the variety of work I get to handle there. Paragon management are also friendly and responsive. Overall, Paragon is a great alternative for those not on the traditional law career path.

Cons

I work on a part time project so I don't qualify for some of the benefits, and as others have mentioned, compensation is fixed. Job security may be an issue, particularly for those with short term projects. This did not bother me as much because I was looking for flexible part time work rather than a full time schedule.
