Pros

I started working as a Sales Rep and was signed on to an awesome team. They gave me all the support I wanted. After a few months, I came to the decision that I didn't want to be in sales any more, and the local management worked very hard to transfer me to operations in the same branch - where I still am today. I love it on the back side, and I loved it on the sales side too! The people are fantastic, there is a big teamwork vibe. I've worked for several other large corporations, and each branch seemed to talk down about the others. Not the case with Paychex. I even had the opportunity to personally meet the CEO in my first 2 months on the job. He came to our training class and did a Q/A session. The work/life balance is great, even as an hourly employee management is flexible if you need time off for something. They really value the people here.

Cons

The sales jobs is challenging because it is mostly outbound; you generate your own leads. Sales has a great support system with a national telemarketing arm to help generate leads, but you get most of your money yourself. It is WORTH IT if you can keep the momentum up, but that can be hard to do. In operations, it can be frustrating dealing with customer issues, but your team will more than make up for the frustration. The pay is less than the base salary for sales, but to me it's worth it to not have a quota.

Pros

The company has a great name brand, and the products work (most of the time). They are really easy on you if you do not hit your number for a few months in a row, so the job security is pretty good. If you do hit your number consistently, you get autonomy to pretty much do what you want to do.

Cons

The organization can be very "clicky"...at least at the local level. If you do not buddy up with the leaders at the regional level, than you are overlooked, or not given preferential treatment. Top sales reps are allowed to do whatever they want, and treat others very poorly, and nothing ever happens to them. From what I know, there have been several managers that have come and gone over the years because of this. Managers are typically former successful sales reps, but that doesn't mean they know how to manage. The regional manager only comes to town every once in a while, and even then, only hangs out with the reps that are a part of the "click", which is only just a couple of them.

Pros

Close contact with fellow co-workers. An all expenses paid trip to New York, and the hotel and accomodations are top notch.

Cons

One person for over 100 clients means that you are not providing very good client service. There are no real perks to working for this job. Every training material you have is in paper which is ridiculous in this age of the internet.
