Pros

Process improvement was area that Paychex has and was true towards productivity improvements, but new and emerging technologies are “key” to true productivity improvements. You can only improve a process so far by reducing steps in the process, but innovation and creativity using new technology and re-engineering is the long-term strategy for productivity…

Cons

The lack of management support for innovation and recognition for risk taking and challenging the “old” processes and methodologies for improvement… the old “this is how we do it hear”…. is a consistant challenge with the old guard. The next generation of Paychex employees run into management road blocks all the time from the “tenured” management and old thinking.

Pros

Generally stable even through the poor economy, good benefits, training on payroll knowledge can be helpful for future career paths.

Cons

Assigned work load that could easily take 50-60 hours per week but rarely allowed overtime to complete it all. This results in either work left undone or completed in a rushed manner -- poor quality that results in client dissatisfaction, low survey scores that count against your annual review. This in turn lowers morale and less workers are motivated to do a good job. The cycle continues year after year...burn out rate is high. People feel unappreciated and underpaid for all they do. Promotions are often, though not always, based on favoritism or cliques.
