Pros

Great benefits. Paychex is concerned about the health and well-being of it's employees.

Cons

Upper management of IT likes to dictate process changes from the top down even when they adversely affect all teams. They advertise that they want teams to choose their own path but rarely allow them to do so until a lot of push-back has occurred..

Pros

This is not the same company you used to know. You can wear jeans now on some teams... The product organization's transition to Agile has transformed the way things work and it is awesome. The company is very stable and makes lots of money. They have invested wisely in their technology people, and it shows in the work that they are producing. The senior management on the product side is AWESOME and totally gets the mission that the company needs moving forward. As a software engineer you will grow here. The problems they are solving are on a huge scale and you'll learn a lot. Attracts excellent talent.

Cons

Even though senior management is awesome, middle management is full of "lifers" and new things are not done as effectively as they should be. Excellent talent doesn't stick around. Why? Because doing as you're told is more valuable to middle management than being excellent and "rocking the boat". As a result, the great people who get drawn in by the big name and awesome technical problems to solve usually leave after a few years. Because of the above, mediocrity is tolerated and even preferred. The company moves slowly. Wall Street expects consistent, stable results and this trickles back down. Change happens but it's slow.
