The expectations of working at this store are outrageous. As a part timer you are doing the work of an assistant store manager but are being paid minimum wage. Store managers are focused completely on their schedules and what works best for them. I can't count how many times I've cried on my way home from work because of the stress and my manager being unable to schedule me around my college classes. Payless completely abuses Michigan Labor Laws. You only get a break after 6 hours of work, which means being on your feet continuously for 6 full hours. You must hound customers until they are almost yelling at you to get out of their face but in order to complete the "SMILES" actions, you must continue to talk to a customer that turns their back to you. This is a very unpleasant place to work and I would not recommend it to anyone. By the way, I'm only 18 years old and this is my first job. I've been at this company for over a year but until a new opportunity opens, I am stuck here! I'm currently looking for a new job in retail because that's what suits my personality best.
