Pros

I was able to acquire more responsibilities that related to my skills; I was not limited to what the last person in my position was capable of. My coworkers were friendly and I looked forward to seeing them every day. I had my own office and a good benefits package. Penn State contributed to my retirement fund while I was there, and I was able to keep my fund after leaving.

Cons

The school is so huge, sometimes it feels like you don't make a difference. But if you get involved on committees it helps. This isn't about my job in particular, but about the town: It gets so cold in State College, and there are of course college students everywhere. Not a great town for cuisine, but there are some good finds.

Pros

Paid my tuition for my PhD. Only 20 hours/week so plenty of time to pursuit the PhD. Paid 80% of health insurance cost. It was a very good plan.

Cons

The salary is low. It will be enough for a single person but you wont save any money.
