Pros

Students are great, Erie has a small town feel, if you like that.

Cons

LOTS of snow, very heavy workload for lecturers while still expecting tenure track levels of research. Turnover is very high among lecturers, pay is low, contract decisions are made late in the year and are very political.

Pros

Huge campus with lots of resources, including the number of faculties, facilities, different majors. Quite and safe place to stay for scientific research. Many student activities and nice environment.

Cons

Biology PhD program usually doesn't offer rotations and is lack of resources for rotation students. Keep of isolated small town which doesn't offer many job opportunities. Most of the companies in the career fair are not interested in biology PhD. Not very supportive environment for PhD students who are seeking for alternative careers outside of academia.
