Pros

Stability of position(s), and continuous work. Never a dull moment.

Cons

Long decision making process. A little too many silos. Promotional tracks are not clear or in short supply, and was mostly due to limited resources.

Pros

I have been employed as graduate assistant while a graduate student. I did not have to interact with the Penn State leadership directly. However, the graduate student committee which served as liaison kept us well updated of the timely policy decisions and changes.

Cons

They have kept changing the student health insurance provider for innumerable times since my ~7 years at the university which is annoying. That said, as graduate student, benefits, promotion, etc did not apply directly to me as in a typical company. The health insurance package seems fair for single student, however it may be insufficient for a family.
