      Pros

      Work life balance and benefits are great. State College is an exceptional place to work, live, and raise a family.

      Cons

      Academia can be slow, so if you like a fast-paced environment, this might not be the place for you. Faculty have more opportunities than staff in my opinion.

      Pros

      Benefits are great as a single graduate student. Large university environment encourages lateral movement

      Cons

      Location - Large undergraduate population leads to shenanigans and it is a relatively remote location. Outreach opportunities for children 18 and under are inhibited by extensive background checks and training. Penn State has an odd culture of pulling from their own crop when looking for management. Very rarely do they bring in outsiders (which is important for growth and advancement).
