Pros

I worked in a life sciences research lab and I was impressed by the cordiality of the all the graduate students, staff, and faculty there. Cutting edge science is the norm, not the exception.

Cons

Scientific resources can be somewhat limited, but are excellent in some other respects. Also the geographic location was not great but certainly affordable. Compensation was pretty meh, even for a postdoc salary.

Pros

The job can be done remotely and you can grade at your own pace within reason.

Cons

The pay is low compared to other things you could do while in school. However, the flexibility makes up for that.
