Pros

Postdoc experiences vary widely depending largely on your supervisor. For me the pros at PSU is a flexible schedule. Additionally, I've been able to expand my skillset using the wide range of PSU resources like free access to Lynda.com.

Cons

Postdoc positions can be very isolating - no matter where you are located. For PSU, in particular, you have to be aware of the football schedule as it will influence your life in the Fall. Another downside is the town itself, very small and almost everyone is associated with the university in some way.

Pros

Great work. Great People. Great Mission.

Cons

Some managers of faculty are vindictive, lack integrity, and are dishonest. Ombudsman system is ineffective for non-tenure track faculty. Bullying. Penn State is not a monolith--where you work and who you work for makes a big difference in how you are treated. Cookie-cutter approach to professional development.
