Pros

For basically an adjunct-like position this was really good. I got health benefits, a decent salary, and a reasonable teaching schedule. I got paid for the amount of teaching I did and I negotiated that at the beginning of the school year in my contract. I mostly taught beginning level classes, which was fine because they are easy to prepare and take up more credits (= more money). I left only because State College is in the middle of nowhere and my girlfriend was in another state.

Cons

State College is isolated and you have to want to be in this area. Also it is not a full time position. It has to be renewed every year or two.

Pros

Large university with lots of experts, flexibility.

Cons

Bureaucracy seems a little over-inflated; raise/promotion system incentivizes staff to move around rather than grow and form relationships within one department; Grad students aren't unionized.
