Pros

The school offers a host of opportunities to staff/faculty as well as students. As someone interested in research, there are always a large number of projects available for collaboration.

Cons

The location of Penn State is one that could deter interested applicants, for the town of State College, while the perfect example of a college town, is just that: a college town. Aside from State College, the location is incredibly rural and doesn't offer much diversity.

Pros

Penn State's extrensic benefits are top-notch. Retirement, healthcare, and vacation time are all very generous.

Cons

Organization is very fragmented. In non-academic jobs, there is no career path (despite what HR tells you). When you move from one department to another, they treat you as if you are coming from an entirely different company and starting over.

Pros

Free education, but not in all Colleges. Beautiful campus. Great town. Many great people working for the University.

Cons

You have to pay to park at your own job (in rural Central Pennsylvania). In my department, pay was much lower, and time off was minimal, compared to most other employees I knew working for this University and others.
