      Pros

      Great benefits, on-campus walk-in clinic for employees, commitment to diversity and inclusion. Very focused on enhancing the student experience.

      Cons

      Parking is expensive and rarely conveniently located. Pay is low for industry standard and raises are meager. There's a policy for everything — sometimes to the detriment of productivity. TOO focused on the student experience and not focused enough on staff's job satisfaction.

      Pros

      Great benefits, many opportunities for exploring different careers within the University, friendly people everywhere, possibility to work part time with full benefits

      Cons

      Staff salaries are on a lower side, pay raises do not reflect the cost of living increases, there have been tendency not to replace workers (retirees, for example) and distributing their workload on others; the organization is very top-heavy with many redundant high-paying positions.

      A great place to work, but less so for women and people of color

      Pros

      Penn State, like many universities, is family friendly in my experience and a university is a great place to work since there are so many learning opportunities. And there are many, many great people.

      Cons

      I know of too many instances of structural discrimination against women (in pay for instance) and differential treatment of people of color. Moreover, while the work environment is friendly, it is also one that lacks accountability and people willing to speak up---or being invited to speak up.
