      Pros

      Time off, tuition discount and interesting work

      Cons

      Extremely low pay, HR that won't budge on raises (they love to use the benefits as reasons to not give you a reasonable raise), terrible 'directors' of units.

      Safe, decent pay, very little chance of getting laid off/fired

      Cons

      Most people don't get promoted. I've heard of it once in my four years at Penn State. You have to quit your job and get another one within the org.
