Pros

Good programs for those who choose to stay at the company for a long time.

Cons

Penske started off feeling like a company that invested in its people and that shifted into feeling like a company who tries to invest in their people just enough to make them stay in a toxic and stress inducing environment. Decisions are made with the bottom line in mind and never the employee. The predominant thought is, book now and figure it out later, though those primarily booking don’t have to face the customer in the field who screams and terrorizes them on a daily basis when the promised truck is nowhere to be found. For those who rise beyond entry level you are forced to figure out twice the amount of work you are paid for at a wage that is barely higher and is of course salary. Everyone knows it, sometimes jokes about it, but does nothing to fix it. Our district has leaked talented people like crazy because no one wants to stay in this environment. Every other manager I’ve spoken with shares the immense stress and personal toll this job has taken. You’re effectively on call at any point in time and when something goes wrong, however small, you’re on the hook even though there aren’t enough hours in the day to get through half the work. For being such a large company so many things have had little thought put into them, creating an unorganized environment with insufficient structure. They claim their entry level position is a management training position, but it’s a program that is glorified on the job training that does not mention leadership or skills to succeed in business. Once in a management position you are given minimal training and must rely on the help of more tenured employees to get through complex situations where defined processes don’t exist. At Penske forget work life balance and leave your integrity at the door. This company structurally encourages lying to customers as the only option to cope with the multitude of customers whose reservations we fail to fulfill. The environment can be described as unethical because this company purposefully places its employees in an environment where it knows options for customers will not be available with the mindset that we will figure it out. Consequently, moving, known as one of the largest stressors in life, is made all the more stressful for unsuspecting customers, who then erupt with an unforgettable fury at associates who try their best to unravel a mess that is designed to have no other outcome than what I’ve shared already. This creates stress, infuriates customers, and promotes an environment of fear because when corporate gets involved there is blame for not finding solutions rather than support to find options. Penske says that it prioritizes value fresh thinking but never asks for our opinions, listens to our opinions, or creates avenues where people can share their opinions. I know that we could collaboratively come up with a system where people are set up for success and the company makes it money, but right now Penske wants to make money and they’ve shown that is all they care about, because throughout COVID (especially, and before) it has been demonstrated that they will jeopardize livelihoods, health, mental health, and anything else to protect their bottom line. That’s Penske’s true colors.

Pros

You get to go on a trip to corporate for a week which can be fun if you make the most of it.

Cons

You do not get paid enough for the amount of work you do. It’s a very high stress job. They do not treat people of color equally and if you are of color, be prepared to have to work twice as hard & do some butt kissing, otherwise you won’t go far. They DO NOT promote based on performance, it’s about favoritism. Turn over rate is high! Very toxic environment.
