Pros

Stability--no layoffs, even in the slow winter months. The pay for the management/sales jobs is often competitive in today's job market. Some jobs offer a good work/life balance, others will require you to work 50-70+ hours per week. Depending on what location you're in, they do like to promote from within.

Cons

The benefits package needs some serious TLC to be competitive. There's no short-term or long-term disability offered, no dental or vision insurance (unless you pay extra into the Health Savings Account), and the paid time off is very poor. After two years of employment, your vacation caps out at two weeks--and you HAVE to take it in Sun-Sat blocks, no vacation day here or there, or mid-week to mid-week vacation is allowed, UNLESS you are senior management. This company also has a nepotism policy that mandates no family members may be hired if there is a current employee that they are somehow related to; however, A LOT of the upper/senior leadership are related to each other. Way to lead by example! Additionally, if you are looking for this employer to trust you in making decisions for the job you are hired to do, you are looking in the wrong place. Every little decision made by managers must be reviewed and signed off on by the executives in Marion, IL. This includes hiring, any employee taking paid time off, and performance evaluations. The HR Managers do not have the power to hire a part-time Merchandiser without it having to be approved by the executives. Even Merchandiser performance evaluations have to be reviewed and approved by the executive team--this usually results in top performing employees not receiving the raise that their direct supervisors feel they deserve. The HR Managers at this company are essentially Recruiters; they do not have hiring/firing power, nor do they have the ability to handle many of the job duties that are generally associated with the title of HR Manager.
