Horrible company to work for

Pros

None. Company cares about their bottom line. That is it.

Cons

Management doesn't have a clue on what they are doing. The Tiers/groups don't speak with each other on troubleshooting issues or looking into issues. Company cares about filling positions do to contract stipulations rather then to fill it with a knowledgeable person. Pulled incumbents over to contract after they won, didn't tell them that TSA / Peraton changed the position that some people had for 20+ years into an entry level position and had them reapply to the same job for 40 - 60% pay reduction. They fudge the scope of work in order to get people to even attempt to apply to jobs. Morally and ethically a horrible company.

Pros

I'm not sure how it is for other teams, other teams might not be as lucky, but the work-life balance is AMAZING. 100% remote and there is an attitude that as long as you don't miss meetings, you can more or less choose your own hours as long as your work is done in a timely manner.

Cons

Culture is poor, there really isn't any bonding with coworkers or a good team feel. Management is awful and is always putting out fires. I've never worked for a company that had as many meetings as this one. There is ZERO reason why regularly scheduled meetings should commonly go over 6 hours. Productivity would drastically go up if meetings were cut down. There is virtually no training or onboarding process. Management doesn't plan accordingly for the negative output it takes to get a new hire up to speed and get them productive so onboarding is essentially, "Welcome to Peraton, here's your first task, good luck. If you have any questions on how to do it, we won't have the time or the willingness to respond. Sink or swim." For specific issues related to software, the codebases I've seen are drastically archaic and are essentially jenga towers ready to fall over. The codebases are quite the mess and don't follow much any sort of coding standards. There is ZERO documentation, at least for the codebases I work with, which given the sheer size of the codebases makes work difficult as even people who have been with the company for quite a few years still struggle with grasping these monoliths.

Pros

Peraton was a spin-out from Harris Corporation in mid 2017. I worked for the company prior to the Harris acquisition, during its ownership, and now under the new Peraton brand. I can honestly say that the company is in the best position its ever been. Spin-outs create real challenges, since the company has to reinvent just about everything that had been provided by the former parent. Fortunately, the senior management is doing all the right things to reset the business on a positive course. There is a lot left to tackle, but they have made huge progress. They abandoned the archaic IT systems of the past in favor of new cloud based services that are much more employee friendly. Every employee got a new PC, for the first time in 7 years for many. All of the key facilities are being upgraded with better decor and work spaces. And the benefits really took a leap in the right direction, after the HR department conducted an employee-wide survey. Now our PTO, company holidays, and healthcare all out pace competitors that are twice our size. Most importantly, Peraton has replaced the culture of fear, negativity and resistance to change of the past, with one of real transparency and collaboration, and what they call a "bias for action." If you want to make a mark for yourself, this place has lots of opportunities.

Cons

There are pockets of nay-sayers who can be disruptive, rather than helpful in implementing the positive changes. These are mostly folks who preferred to stay buried in the bureaucracy of the previous owner or who work on the more obscure and remote programs. As, someone who has been here before, during, and after the Harris era, I can say with conviction that the new Peraton is a far better company on a better course.
