My biggest complaint is about my store as a whole. Though I’m guessing we are not The only store with this issue, my store has had 6 Store Leaders in 5 years since I’ve become pet trainer. Only one ever gave me a yearly review in that time, and subsequently a slight pay increase. We have also had 3 omelette staff white washes in that time. The turnover is atrocious. Management are always overworked and told to fake a smile. It feels like there are fewer and fewer staff to assist customers every day. And it’s all about the money. But even when you are making them good money, you are not worth a dirty dish rag to them. It sucks. Training sales go up and down. People commit and then they don’t commit. I have a very loyal following of students at my location that I have built over the last 5-6 years. I’ve had one lady alone send me 10 of her friends to join my training classes! I’ve topped at $1400 on multiple weeks as the solo trainer at my store AND part time trainer, despite being a full time associate. We are touted as trusted partners. The most knowledgeable in the store. We sell alot of our own classes. Improve the training cultures of our stores… yet I find there are part time cashiers that are making more per hour than after one year of being at the same location than I do… Each new manager means I must prove myself a gain and again and again… and again… and…again… So many trainers are leaving. So many staff are leaving…. So many managers are burning out on the workload… and no one cares… the pets suffer under it… the staff paint on smiles as you bale out a ship full of holes… those that used Petsmart for skills leave as soon as they can. I’ve said it before, I will say it again… PETSMART YOU ARE TRAINING YOUR OWN COMPETITION WITH THE UNDER PAY AND HIGH WORK LOAD!!! Show some value for your day in and day out people… don’t be the Walmart of petstores.
