Pros

It's a fun place to work with all of the animals and the dogs that customers bring in. Other than the typical customers that whine about prices or service or whatever, the customers are rather nice. We also get a lot of regulars who are always fun to talk to. While I'm a cashier now I was a stocker and it was fun to stock the product and see what new stuff came in.

Cons

I don't know how it is at other locations, but at the location I work at, the store manager NEVER makes employees full-time... There's only one person in the core store (not salon or hotel), other than the managers, that's full-time. The amount of hours are bad too, I frequently ask them if there's any way I can get more hours, they say they will and I get literally 1 or 2 hours in the following weeks. And in the three years I've been with the company I have NEVER received a written evaluation about my job performance, even though in the handbook it says we should. The store manager also doesn't communicate enough.

Pros

The primary reason I still work at PetSmart is the animals. I do have a lot of regular customers that ask for me personally and I do enjoy helping most of the customers that come in the store.

Cons

If you are hired in at a low level, you will never be promoted higher than maybe a lead position. Pet Care there is a lot to do every day, all day. It is a lot of hard work with very little assistance from other departments, yet they are expected to cover other areas in the store making it very difficult to complete daily duties and provide proper customer service. The down side to others helping in Pet Care is lack of training and knowledge which can result in improper information given to customers which can have bad results when they purchase live animals without clear understanding of their needs and care. Training for all areas and positions are minimal at best. Most of the managers have very little experience, if any, and most are outside hires, very rare to find a manager that was promoted to the position. Pay is low and so are the raises.
