Pros

Working with the kids. This is the best place to work if you want to help children. The sickest children come here. The other hospitals may say they have a pediatrics program or are a pediatrics hospital, but when they can't help the children they send them to PCH.

Cons

Pay is less than at other hospitals in the valley for all positions. Communication between disciplines can be lacking. The main healthcare benefits (UMR) is horrible with high out of pocket expenses and poor service. We used to have great insurance, but not anymore, it just keeps getting worse and worse every year. PCT staffing is very inconsistent.

High paced environment, plenty of variety of position on a daily basis. Many resources and many great co-workers that make the job exciting.

Cons

Years without set management team, building department from top down.

Last year there: 2006 Care is excellent! They saved a family member's life! Most staff members are well educated and trained. Most Docs are very talented! Food is good...ice cream is great...they feed night staff!!! Housekeeping works hard to keep the place clean. Having translators in house (Spanish speaking) is a tremendous help in patient care!

Cons

The nurses don't like staff with "lesser titles" (scrub tech, lab tech, ED tech, Unit coordinators) with higher levels of education. They feel threatened, and will not use the additional knowledge to their advantage. ONLY nurses are "allowed" to be better educated and experienced. Perhaps they don't like staff working through school in non-nursing programs. Lots of cliques and back stabbing! Worked there 5yrs, left on good terms, cannot get my former position back! Have applied for 4 years!
