Norfolk, VA Venues: Racist, Favoritism, Long Hours, No Breaks, Hot Days, Little Pay, Bad Management!
Pros
Co-workers are usually understanding of one another and work as a team. Scenery if you are in to Battle Ships and Water Cruises. Discount on the cruises and Nauticus. Gift Cards are given as incentives to bring in high service scores. If the venue manager favors you, advancement can be fast.
Cons
Working outside in heat, cold, or, rain. Long work hours with no break, even though, after working 6 hours a 30 minute break is taken out of your check automatically. Moonlight cruises are over at 2-AM and you then have sell photos to drunken customers (who are almost always rude). Management is weak and uneducated. Management forces lower workers to perform manager work. Favoritism is real. Despite if you are good at selling photos, the manager only keeps and promotes employees based on the popularity of the employee. Manager refuses to hire men. Manager makes racists comments about both customers and employees. Manager never actually works, just sits in the office overlooking service scores. Managers misjudge employee's performance due to favoritism and never being around. Customers complain constantly about how overpriced the photos are. The entire shift you work is spent standing. You are required to almost force customers into taking a quick and impersonal low quality photo. Then you are forced to sell the low quality photos for $25-$40.00. Also the pay is minimal and the promotions are a scam, they give you an extra $0.25-$1.00 to basically do the manager's job, then apply a heavy amount of pressure to preform. The drama within the company and the host venues is ridiculous. The managers are unprofessional when communicating within the company. The schedule is almost never posted in a timely manner. The manager will only give the majority of hours to their favorites. This can cause your work schedule and paychecks very inconsistent. Once the manager had their sister working hours, because they decided they wanted to take hours away from other employees they did not like, a stupid decision on their part because they had no other employees to work those shifts. So they unethically let the sister work although she is not a Photogenic Inc. employee. Leaving other employees out of hours to work and money in their pockets.
