As a corporation, Piggly Wiggly Midwest has two basic formats: 1) franchised stores, & 2) those run directly by the corporation. On the plus side, a typical Pig employee will find their work schedule to be extremely flexible; this can be wonderful for accommodating various levels of schooling/studies. Work is relatively simple, and can be aptly described as low in the stress department.

Cons

The quality (or lack thereof) of an employment at Piggly Wiggly likely varies based upon the personnel managing a given location. Stores run directly by Paul Butera (Owner & CEO) feature mostly part-time employees that are compensated with rock-bottom wages and entitled to no paid vacation, personal days, holidays, or premium Sunday pay. The corporate office even exerts some pressure on Franchises to adopt similar practices. In the few remaining unionized locations, union-elimination is asked for. At the store level, upward mobility is limited, and prospects for advancement in income are minimal (at best).
