Pros

-The staff was very nice -Everyone was knowledgeable and helpful -Generous 50% off discount to employees -Salaried managers received a free meal per work day -Great opportunities for advancement -Great with time off requests

Cons

1.) As an assistant manager you are required to work 50 hours a week (minimum) but that usually never happens. Some times your <sarcasm>Intelligent Area Coach</sarcasm> will want specific cleaning tasks completed when he comes into the store at 3:00pm (2 hours before a peak hour begins) and have it cleaned by the next morning. Since controlling labor is also thrown into the equation you cannot keep anyone after their scheduled time to help you (if you are not making sales for example). So that leaves JUST YOU after hours completing numerous time consuming cleaning tasks by yourself. Expect to work 60 hours a week. Once a salaried manager goes over 40 hours they receive something referred to as "Chinese overtime" which is pretty much a server wage. This can be difficult when it comes to maintaining a social life. They also expect you to go in on your rare days off to check on the store. I know that's important but making time for yourself is important to your psyche. 2.) Expect to be blamed for EVERYTHING. Once a week, General Managers have meetings with the Area Director and they will generally throw you under the bus to protect themselves. So expect to be yelled at a lot especially when you did nothing wrong. They will refer to this line of bullsh*t as "building capability in you." 3.) Restaurants should be clean. Managing time to clean can be difficult during peak hours when the Assistant is usually working. Some times these things just don't get done because one would rather focus on customer service as opposed to deck scrubbing behind a rack in the back of the store where a customer can't see anyways. There is a time for this, and it is not during peak hours or after close when it can get dangerous. 4.) Your supervisor (the Area Director) will only look at numbers on a paper and will not investigate further (i.e. bad labor numbers, sales, inventory) in case there is an explanation. You will only get chastised for making excuses when all you are really doing is explaining what happened. All in all, expect to get yelled at a lot for things beyond your control on a daily basis... 60 hours a week.

Pros

The lean organization gives many opportunities to do things way above your pay grade. This is also a big con.

Cons

Everyone has 10 more things added to their normal job responsibilites so everyone is burnt out. Marketing runs the show and no one (including HR) dare stand up to them. This creates a "Mad Men" type culture of management judging you for what time you show up each morning and what time you leave each night. They are trying to change the culture but no one will believe it as long as the actions don't match the words - this includes promoting people who are jerks and not really understanding whats going on in the lower levels. If you join, steer clear of Marketing and see it as a temporary move until you can find something better.

Outdated Sinking Ship

Pros

4 months of maternity leave that starts on your first day and half day Fridays. $100 Pizza Hut gift card every quarter. Hybrid 2 days a week. Great exit interview process.

Cons

The company operates in the 1980s. They are trying to understand the technology of 2024 using the same platform from 1988, so customers experience consistent poor service. We study Dominos, McDonald’s and Chipotle daily. Anything digital is a sinking ship and all bad for the customers and team. Horrible company culture (overworked, underpaid, under appreciated, gossip mill, mean girls). This place is a revolving door with years of negative sales, so the franchisees are frustrated. Pizza Hut is the uncool stepsister at Yum! desperately trying to take back the #1 spot from Dominos. The President was fired this year and no one communicated anything. It was like he vanished into thin air. People vanish weekly and HR sends vague emails. Morale is low. Turnover is high in general. People either stay for 10 years or 1 year. Internal consumer studies confirm no one likes Pizza Hut anymore. It’s now the basic, expensive chain pizza for baby boomers and right wing conservatives.
