Great People, Very Uncertain Future

Pros

There are some of the brightest database minds on board. Diversity is good in terms of men & women... Pay can be pretty competitive.

Cons

Leadership frequently tries to provide confidence that the company is in a good position in spite of several layoffs within the last year. Sales & Engineering teams are not well coordinated which causes overpromising and disappointment for many customers. Sales pressure is important but when a customer ends disappointed the blame is shifted to employees, not the leadership who approved said changes. Company does not support pursuing certifications or other forms of higher education while employed. Diversity is not great outside of that but this is not a major negative since the company is still pretty small and distributed. Hopefully this improves in the future. Healthcare benefits are Okay for the industry but there are much better options out there.

Pros

- Nothing about the company is set in stone and leadership is transparent and open to feedback. If you see a better way, you can always make your case to whoever needs to hear it, up to the CEO if needed. - The team values respect over raw performance. No one is allowed to be a jerk, no matter what they contribute technically. - The company was always remote-friendly, but now it's doubling down on building a culture around asynchronous work. That means not only flexibility in where I live, but also the flexibility to prioritize my family's schedule and fit work around that.

Cons

- There is so much engineering work to do and not enough engineers to do it. The hardest part of my job is having to tell colleagues, "I'd love to do that for you, but it's going to be a while before I get to it." - Sometimes we work on something that ends up not being used, either because we changed direction or we built it for a particular customer who changed their mind. We try a lot of things and they don't all stick, so we have to get used to moving on to the next thing.
