Pros

The people. Plante Moran staff truly are caring and supportive. Work hour flexibility is what sets P&M apart from other employers. You are held accountable for the work that you are responsible for however you are not micro managed.

Cons

The healthcare benefits are expensive if you have a family and the 401K matching is only 50% of the first 2%, up to 1% of total compensation. The PTO is very generous and the ability to purchase 2 additonal weeks at a discouny is a big plus.

Pros

There is no sense of competition among employees. Everybody makes their own progress and does not depend on anybody else. Overall, the environment is very friendly and with some employees you develop a friendship outside of work. The salary and vacation length (4 weeks) are wonderful, in my opinion. The best thing I love about Plante Moran is flexible schedule. If you are not audit staff that has to be at the client every day, you can come into the office anytime and leave anytime. There is no 8-5 schedule. As long as you make it work and do your job, your schedule does not particularly matter.

Cons

While Plante Moran stresses how important it is to have a work-life balance and a flexible schedule definitely helps out with this, I think that we do work a lot of hours during tax season. But I guess, this is expected from a CPA firm. The problem is sometimes people have to work up to 80 hours a week, which is a lot more than Generation Y desires to work. Depending on the office, sometimes employees discuss others behind their back. While it is emphasized that we care only about our own career, others are often interested in someone else's business.
