Depends on the department you land in, lots of red tape and paperwork. Everything needs to be documented. Cost-cutting measures, lots of drama.

Passionate colleagues and an active supportive union. Amazing students

Cons

Administration seems focused on hoarding resources and corporatizing a public institution. Resources are spent on outside consultants, managerial bloat and COLA increase for the college president.

Pros

Working with students, and providing resources that guarantee their success, is wonderful. Great way to start learning about the library field. Coworkers are often pleasant. Often room for advancement.

Cons

Low pay and no benefits to really speak of if you are not a classified employee. Hours capped at 599 for the academic year, so you can work an average of 12 hours a week at most. A lot of responsibility put on casuals for such low wages.
