Pros

Good office environment and people, expensive office furniture, great 401k package, very high salary for the Portland region

Cons

Thick management layer creates conflicting goals and poor department collaboration. Highly challenged IT department. Company politics govern program development, innovation and advancement.

Pros

Excellent people work there. Most are competent, passionate, and hard working. It was a real pleasure working with them. This company also has a pretty clear demarcation between departments. There's not much confusion about who is responsible.

Cons

This company is becoming very corporate. Their desire to increase shareholder return often sacrifices employee welfare. There is not much concern about losing institutional knowledge, as the family-like culture that used to encourage loyalty and stability has faded. Now they're just another company.

Solid company to work for but hard to move around

Pros

Benefits are very good, supportive work environment (depending on the department/manager), overall great coworkers, nice location.

Cons

If you're labeled as an "administrative assistant" it is very hard to move up since managers don't think you're capable of doing anything else. Also, to attract the younger generation, the company needs to become more flexible with work options (telecommuting, flex-schedules, 4-10's, later/earlier start/end times, etc.). The company currently has virtually eliminated all flexible working options, making it not as family-friendly or as Gen-Y friendly.
