A solid employer, a bit bureaucratic

Pros

As a major regional utility, PGE is a stable employer. Its people are talented and passionate and everyone seems to love the company and for the most part, their jobs. They have a great commitment to diversity and are very focused on improvements based on the results of their employee engagement survey.

Cons

If you love meetings, you will love PGE. It seems a bit constrained by regulatory requirements, but that's the Enron legacy. Ratepayer dollars need to go with accountability.

Working Toward Change

Pros

HR and executives are really working on having a more flexible work environment. It's a slow process and still not perfect but they are listening.

Cons

It really depends what department you're in but some departments lack good leadership all the way at the top executive level down to managers/supervisors. Department managers are often not aligned and can lead to a lot of rework or miscommunication.

Love the company, fear for its future

Pros

Excellent core values and beliefs, great compensation benefits. A sense of duty to customers, employees, community, and shareholders. The integrity and fairness at the core of this company rarely found elswhere. Extremely low attrition.

Cons

At risk of becoming irrelevant as new technology and innovation disrupts business as usual, as is the case for most public utilities. The company's ability to stay agile and adopt change quickly will be the deciding factor in it's ability to survive in the future.
