Building Something Special

Pros

- Approachable and passionate management - Cutting edge internal IT systems and collaboration tools are adopted - Competitive pay - Exceptional perks and benefits - 8 weeks PTO off the bat. Almost weekly social events (even switching to social virtual events during the 2020 quarantine period in order to maintain the culture) - Design of facilities - the spaces look like they belong in a magazine - Location of facilities - If you work at HQ (dt Durham), you can walk to great restaurants. The Mfg and Plant Sciences locations are also impressive and well positioned. - Ability to move roles to find your best fit. This is mostly a result of a rapidly growing company building new functions and allowing folks to take on a new path if it's the right fit. The company is rooted and dedicated to Durham, NC. Which is extremely refreshing since I have worked for other biopharma and gene therapy companies around RTP where the mother ship is located elsewhere.

Cons

Information sharing - at times it can be overly difficult to get all the information you need cross-functionally to do your job and stay updated. This may be a result of rapid growth and less time at the department level to consolidate info and communicate out. Some may feel uncomfortable in how their roles are evolving as we mature to a commercial scale biotech, which can result in keeping a tight grip on info and workload they have always owned (but maybe should let go). To help with this - mgt of larger functions could make roles and responsibilities more clear so that information can be shared better, and so people aren't forced to reinvent the wheel or be in the dark.
