Tough times ahead

Pros

Decent benefits and flexible schedules.

Cons

Extremely tough times going on at the moment especially in the operations area (which consists mainly of customer service, membership & billing, and claims). Monthly layoffs, customer service being encouraged to take months of unpaid time off while at the same time 4 VPs being very recently promoted (this is the only place I've worked at where I have been amazed at how many VPs and mid and upper management there is). It's funny too see that during these tumultuous times no mid and upper management seem to have been laid off at all.

Pros

Great peers and people who care about our members. Decent pay and benefits are ok. They just increased time off which was way under industry standards. Managers work hard to be approachable and positive. They still offer a pension which is really nice.

Cons

Long hours for managers. Really high expectations without supportive processes and really chaotic and poorly developed technology that you need to accomplish work. Intelligent senior managers who are not good at leaning out processes and are definitely not innovative. Change is continual and work is never mastered. Often times ideas are scrapped and the wheel reinvented just so that management can show they are doing something different even when that difference is not in the best interest of the member's and their employees. Lost 10's of millions of dollars last year in the individual market due to poor senior management choices which resulted in layoffs of the employees who supported them. Employees often "disappear" when you come to work and find their cube emptied out. Speaking out is not encouraged and is often shut down.

No loyalty

Pros

Many employees are Good people, loyal to the company and to each other.

Cons

There is Zero loyalty to the staff. Employees are expendable. As long as you do your job, don't question how your Manager wants things done or share your knowledge, expertise and ideas, you'll be fine.
