Pros

Great facilities, smart people, collaborative spirit

Cons

Scientists, especially postdocs are very underpaid and undervalued. No resources for transitioning outside of academia and professors do not support any other career, and basically make you feel like a loser.

Parking is likely very far away from your office adding 15-20 mins to your commute on each end.

Pros

Great benefits. The university really cares about its employees. Unlimited resources. Great work/life balance.

Cons

One of the most bureaucratic employers I've ever worked for. Advancement and professional development is also a challenge. In order to move ahead, you have to leave the institution then come back.
