Great place to work if you are wiling to work you butt off

Pros

Great support staff. Subsidized housing which is almost guaranteed for younger graduate students. Pays better than most other graduate schools. First year fellowship for all graduate students. Top-notch facilities. Some of the best professors available to work with.

Cons

Long hours in lab - expect to come in on weekends. Also expect a couple all nighters and 100 hour weeks. Town is isolated. Professors are demanding. Difficult qualifying exams.

Pros

One gets lots of opportunity to interact with talented students and colleagues. Low workload during summer months. Lots of facilities for working mothers, including daycare, generous maternity leave, etc. Plenty of opportunities to make extra money through short-term projects and events organization. Good career advancement opportunities.

Cons

Lots of unnecessary work created by the fact that most departments have their own department-specific database and information protocols. It makes inter-departmental communication difficult. While the low-key summers are great, the uneven workload during the year means that the beginning of the fall semester is extraordinarily busy. New Jersey weather: need I say more?
