Pros

Great benefits, lots of smart faculty and graduate students hanging out within the department and available for collaboration. Princeton's campus is quite pretty, and it's nice to work in a place where cutting edge research is being completed every day.

Cons

The town itself is beyond dull, and there are a good number of staff employees who have become complacent with the stability of an academic job. This is similar to other universities.

* Well known * Most advisers are experts within their field * Good pay compared to other PhD programs (across all fields)

Cons

* Small departments, it's hard to switch advisers * Your PhD experience depends on your adviser * Social life is awful (doesn't matter how close you are to NYC) * Undergrads treat you like an outcast
